Terms of service

These terms apply when a Shopify store installs and uses Parla ("the app"), operated by Zaiq, South Africa ("we", "us"). By installing the app, the store's owner ("you") accepts them. Last updated: 5 October 2026.

The service

The app translates your store's content into the languages you choose: products and their options, collections, pages, blog posts, menus, policies, theme text, SEO titles and descriptions, and image alt text. It can keep translations up to date when you edit products and collections, lets you review and edit any translation, and offers a language switcher for your theme. Translations are saved in your Shopify store through Shopify's own translation features.

Your Shopify store

The app works only inside Shopify. You need a Shopify store and must follow Shopify's terms. Access starts when you install the app and ends when you uninstall it.

Plans and billing

  • The Free plan costs nothing. Paid plans are charged by Shopify on your Shopify bill, every 30 days, in US dollars. You see the price and approve the charge in Shopify before you pay anything.
  • You can change plan at any time on the app's Plans page. Switching to Free cancels the paid subscription, and Shopify credits the unused part of the period.
  • Each plan includes a number of translated words a month: 50,000 on Free, 1,000,000 on Pro and 2,000,000 on Large. Past that, translation stops until the next month, or until you move to a bigger plan; work already finished is kept, and nothing extra is charged.
  • If a price goes up, the new price only applies after you approve it in Shopify.

Your content

  • Your store's content and its translations stay yours.
  • You allow us to process your store's content only to provide the app to you: to read it through Shopify, to send the text being translated to our AI translation provider, and to save the translations in your store.
  • We never use your content to train AI models, never share it with other stores and never sell it. The privacy policy explains what we store and for how long.
  • You are responsible for having the right to translate and publish your content.

AI translations

Translations are written by AI and can contain mistakes. Review what matters most, such as legal pages, safety information and anything you publish in a language you don't read, before you publish that language. Before saving a translation, the app checks that it keeps the original's HTML, Liquid tags, links and numbers, and it doesn't save one that fails the check. Fields you edit yourself are locked, so automatic updates leave them alone.

Acceptable use

Don't use the app to translate content that is illegal or infringes someone else's rights, try to reach another store's data, interfere with the service, or resell it.

Availability and changes

We work to keep the app running but can't promise it will never be interrupted. Translation pauses when Shopify or the AI provider is unavailable and continues from where it stopped. We may change features; if a change removes something you pay for, we will tell you before it happens.

Services we rely on

The app depends on Shopify, and on OpenRouter and the AI model providers it routes to. Their availability and terms are outside our control.

Ending

You can stop at any time by uninstalling the app; a paid subscription ends with it. 48 hours after you uninstall, Shopify asks us to delete your store's data, and we do. Translations already saved in your store stay there until you remove them in Shopify. We may suspend the app for a store that breaks these terms, with notice where we can give it.

Liability

As far as the law allows, the app is provided as it is, we are not liable for indirect losses such as lost sales or profits, and our total liability for any claim about the app is limited to what you paid us for it in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow to be limited.

Changes to these terms

We will publish changes on this page and update the date at the top. If a change matters to how you use the app, we will tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before it applies.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of South Africa.
