Getting started
- Open Parla from your Shopify admin, under Apps.
- On Languages, add the languages you want. They are added to your store unpublished, so shoppers don't see them yet.
- On Home, press Translate store. Progress updates live; you can close the page and the translation carries on.
- On Review, read and edit translations side by side with the original.
- On Languages, publish a language when you're happy with it.
- In your theme editor, open App embeds, turn on Language switcher and save, so shoppers can pick their language.
Common questions
What does the app translate?
Products with their options and variants, collections, pages, blog posts, menus, policies, metafields and metaobjects, theme text, SEO titles and descriptions, and image alt text. URL handles are translated only if you turn that on in Settings, because it changes the addresses of translated pages.
Will my own edits be overwritten?
No. When you edit a translation in Review, that field is marked "Edited by you" and automatic updates leave it alone.
What happens when I change a product?
With Keep translations up to date on in Settings, products and collections you create or edit are translated again shortly after you save them. Only the fields that changed are translated.
I'm switching from another translation app. Do I lose my translations?
No. Translations already saved in Shopify are kept, whether they came from Translate & Adapt, another app that saves to Shopify, or were typed by hand: the app only fills what is missing or out of date. Weglot keeps translations on its own servers: export them as a CSV file in Weglot and upload it on the Import page. Shopify's own translation export and any CSV file with source, translation and locale columns work too.
How do I keep my brand name as it is?
Add it on Glossary and choose to keep it as is. You can also set the translation a term must have in each language.
What does Store health check?
It opens your public storefront pages in each language, as a shopper would, and lists what still shows in the original language (theme text, text from other apps, image descriptions, SEO titles), labels that may not fit, and missing language tags for search engines. Each problem comes with what to do about it. Text that comes from another app is translated in that app's own settings.
My store has a password. Can Store health still check it?
Yes. Development stores always have a password, and so do stores that haven't opened yet. Enter the storefront password from Online Store › Preferences next to Check my store. It's used only during that check, kept in memory while the check runs, and never stored or logged, so you enter it again for the next check.
Which plan do I need?
The Plans page in the app shows what each plan includes and recommends the one that fits your store. Charges are made by Shopify and appear on your Shopify bill.
How do I change plan or stop paying?
Choose another plan on the Plans page and approve it in Shopify. To stop paying, choose Free or uninstall the app.
A translation stopped with an error. What now?
Start it again from Home. Finished work is kept, so it continues where it stopped. If it fails again, write to us with your store's address.
What happens to my data when I uninstall?
Translations already saved stay in your store until you remove them in Shopify. 48 hours after you uninstall, Shopify asks us to delete everything we store about your store, and we do. The privacy policy has the details.
Do you use my content to train AI?
No. Your content is used only to translate your store. It is never used to train AI models, never shared with other stores and never sold.
